A beautiful young Coopers Hawk, Accipiter Cooperii, perched on a branch, in hunting mode, and making eye contact with me, in my backyard Spruce Tree with the snow gently falling, is searching for easy prey. The Coopers Hawk is territorial and my backyard seems to be part of its territory as it always seems to be in it. It apparently feeds well in this area as we find feathers on the ground all the time and in any season. This winter has had been extremely cold with lots of snowfall so maybe the smaller birds are easy prey for the hawk. We know when the raptor is around as the smaller birds are nowhere to be seen and if the crows spot it, they are making a lot of noise trying to make it go away!
