Although this shot looks peaceful and serene it was anything but while trying to get it. Showy lady slippers are the tallest native northern orchid and the most common habitat is wetlands (forested or open) and moist woods. It flowers during the late spring when mosquito populations are at their peak. I was fighting off mosquitos and although well covered they found any open piece of skin - hands and face. I got what I could and dashed out of there as quick as I could.
