I was kayaking around Discovery Island hoping for a glance at this locally known lone wolf. Takaya, as he is referred to, has been alone here for many years, adapting to life by the ocean. I spent two days paddling around the island looking for him without luck. On my final morning, I woke before the sun to begin my paddle home. Just as the sun was peaking around the mountains at my back, I saw his head rise above the rocky ledge, howl at me, and proceed to follow me along the shoreline as I continued on my way. I find that when I stop looking, I finally see what I hope for.
