While on a 7-day Great Bear Rainforest expedition with Maple Leaf Adventures, we encountered two coastal seawolves in an experience I'll never forget. It was a foggy morning and the energy in our small group was high after hiking through ominous weather in the forest and hearing wolves howl to each other from every direction. They knew we were on their island and they wanted to make that known. Our expedition leader was Kevin Smith, co-founder of Maple Leaf Adventures. We followed him down to the beach from the hiking path and it wasn't before long when two wolves emerged from the forest and joined us, curious about who we were and what we had to offer. They came a mere few feet from us, showing no aggression and only curiosity. I captured the experience through my lens and took the time to enjoy this once in a lifetime opportunity for myself. Kevin later explained to us in his 18 years of coming to the Great Bear Rainforest, that close encounter with the coastal seawolves was an experience that had never happened to him before.
