This Boreal Owl (Aegolius funereus) had been sleeping in an area of thick trees as protection from predators, cltching a vole in its talons. When two Downy Woodpeckers landed in the same tree just above and encroaching on the owl, it awoke and checked its surroundings before taking flight, the vole still firmly clutched in it talons.
