Of Land and Sea

On remote beaches, forests and islands in coastal British Columbia lives a rare and elusive animal: the Coastal Grey Wolf. The wolves here are unique from other wolves, surviving primarily off of food from the sea. I would best describe my encounter with this secretive animal as magical. Watching this beautiful animal emerge from the forest cover and walking out onto the shoreline was a gift I won’t soon forget. Wolves face a variety of threats; in some places, they are threatened by hunting and habitat loss. In places closer to cities, they are threatened by habituation to people, usually due to the presence of human food such as left out garbage.
