A female Goldeneye duck emerges from her successful dive in the cold North Atlantic water with this crab, her "catch of the day" on a frigid February day! This sea duck has amazing diving skills and is a thrill to watch her. She dives in the small unfrozen part of the Northumberland strait that exceptionally remains unfrozen most winter, with its strong currents, contrary to all the rest of the area which freezes completely and is covered in ice and snow, limiting the diving territory of sea ducks. (FYI: I have a few photos of diving sea ducks that I hesitated to place in either the aquatic life or the things with wings category. Other birds, I will place under things with wings).
