During one of my snowshoe outings, I set off like I often do, without expectation, simply enjoying the stillness of the forest. Not long into the walk, I noticed a distant silhouette perched at the edge of a field. At first glance, I thought it was a raven… but through the lens, it revealed something far more incredible: a Great Grey Owl, a rare and moving sight after 20 years of walking these same lands. Then, as if the moment wasn’t already enough, a second owl appeared, gliding gently toward the first. What followed was unforgettable: a wild aerial dance between the two, as they chased each other back and forth across the snow-covered field. It was raw, silent, and intense—a brief glimpse into their world. Eventually, both owls landed just meters apart and dozed off, exhausted. The calm that followed was almost sacred. These rare encounters remind me how essential it is to protect these natural spaces, so future generations can also feel the magic of such moments. Great Grey Owl Québec, Canada
