The lush grasses of the Squamish Estuary are rich with life, fed by the ocean tides and Squamish river it draws a diverse range of species to the area. Great blue herons feed upon the small fish that coast down the shallow, narrow channels making for an easier meal. The foliage, so tall, the birds and other wildlife are cloaked from view and the thin neck and long beak of a heron scoping out the landscape, only just stands out against the vibrant green backdrop, before it’s crouched back down and on the hunt, disappearing into the landscape. Looking out across the scene, you would hardly know the amount of life you are truly viewing if you didn’t take the time to sit for awhile and take it all in, the birds, otters, seals, bears and only those patient enough to know what else may be hiding within the tall grasses of the Estuary.
