Two juvenile Bald Eagles feast on a carcass. There were a few more eagles sniffing around this carcass, including an adult, but these two were the last ones standing. Bald Eagles don't get their distinctive white head and dark brown body until they are approximately five years of age, which confirms that both were juveniles. This photograph was taken during a whale/sea otter viewing trip at the north end of Vancouver Island. The birds were not baited or disturbed in any way. The scene in the photograph is exactly as I found it. Fortunately, there was a clump of trees nearby that afforded me some cover that allowed me to watch without disturbing the birds. I'm not even certain what the carcass belonged to: I think it might be a seal, but I'm not sure.
