A cold Nap

I spotted the dark mass as just a flicker, way down the river as I passed over the slick bridge. Quickly pulling off, I jumped from the truck and began the trudge through the heavy snow. Getting closer I slowed and tucked myself behind the few small trees that sporadically lined the eroded riverbank. Lifting my head to see over, I spotted the river otter and made my approach. Now river otters, if you can stay quiet, you can often hide in almost plain sight as they are very near-sighted when on land. Of course I was kneeling and crawling in near knee deep snow… so quiet wasn’t really my forte at the time. However, thanks to the one near bear evergreen, I was able to sneak in for a few shots before he slipped in amongst the ice chunks.
