Early one morning while exploring the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary, these two bears emerged from the woods to the north of where I was. They swam across a narrow channel and emerged on a sedge island. The first, anticipating a playful attack from its pursuer, turned and went on the attack before the second bear had a chance to get out of the water. They sparred for a few minutes before beginning to feed on the sedge.
