I was out on the Arctic tundra during a summer expedition in northern Manitoba when I came across this male polar bear. He wandered past my vehicle, climbed to the highest point along the rugged coastline, and lay down. Out of nowhere, a Common Raven started pestering him. It flew right up to his face, pecking at him, and he only swatted at it once. It was a reminder about staying calm in the middle of everything happening around us, and everything happening to our planet. The bear understood exactly how much energy he would waste if he focused on this one annoying little bird. That quiet wisdom taught me something valuable that day.
