Upper Arrow Lake is regulated by the Keenleyside Dam, constructed by BC Hydro in the 1960s as part of the Columbia River Treaty with the United States. The lake's water levels fluctuate due to both natural and treaty-related factors. By late summer, sandbars are revealed, creating odd-looking landscapes and making for interesting photo opportunities. Coupled with changing weather and pink clouds, this rugged mountainous part of the Kootenays produces surreal and breathtaking beauty.
