Me, standing quietly, patiently, watching this heron, finger ready on my camera. The great blue heron patiently watches the water's surface, shrouded in golden morning sunlight as it hunts under a Vancouver Island pier. It strikes lightning fast, head first into the sea, face fully submerged, recoils back out with a tiny fish pinched between its large yellow bill. It's mornings like this, observing nature in action and capturing it, that make being an early bird up before the sun to catch the play of light as it first touches everything worthwhile.
