It had been raining hard for days, which is not uncommon for Victoria, BC in winter. I was enjoying a much-needed beachside morning outside and stopped to watch the hooded mergansers dive and feed on fish. A group of them came closer to shore to primp and preen afterward. This female flashed her perfectly coiffed crest as she posed for a portrait.
