Amongst seemingly massive boulders on a shrinking shore, this tiny, precious Piping plover chick (Charadrius melodus) embodies the quiet struggle of an endangered species. With fewer than 60 breeding pairs left in all of Nova Scotia. Every hiding place is a fight for survival. On Nova Scotia’s fragile shores, moments like these are as vital as they are vanishing. Endangered but enduring, the species carries on one chick at a time. Each small step this chick takes is a symbol of resilience in a race against extinction. This tiny shorebird is a rare and hopeful glimpse into a fragile future.
