Tucked behind a rock on a shrinking shore, this precious Piping plover chick (Charadrius melodus) embodies the quiet struggle of an endangered species with fewer than 60 breeding pairs left in all of Nova Scotia. Every hiding place is a fight for survival. On Nova Scotia’s fragile shores, moments like these are as vital as they are vanishing. Endangered but enduring, the species carries on one chick at a time
