Severe weather hit areas surrounding Cochrane, Alberta at the beginning of February, blanketing the trees in frost. As the snow began to fall, I quickly left the comfort of home to brave the weather in search of a great grey owl. Thankfully, I found one briefly—just long enough to photograph. The muted tones strip the scene almost to black and white, leaving the owl perfectly at home in the heart of winter. Captured: February 1, 2025
