Following the overwintering birds to Vancouver Island, I too made my way by RV from the Kootenays to the Island for a 5 month stay. On this chilly December morning, I packed up my camera and a steamy Earl Grey tea, bound for one of my favorite birding sanctuaries at the Esquimalt Lagoon, a Pacific byway for many winter birds, including this dazzling male Northern Pintail enjoying some much needed sunshine after a month of rain.
