Several days ago I was lucky enough to come across, what I though was one pygmy owl. All of a sudden a male comes in and perches next to the female. It was interesting to watch the male look at the female, as if to ask permission. The mate session took no more than 10 seconds. Pairs often form around March and normally for only one breeding season. There are several old woodpecker holes in the area in which they will probably build their nest.
