A killdeer stops with its delightful plumage of camouflage and stares back with those brightly orange-rimmed eyes. Although they are shorebirds, they are frequently found in urban environments such as golf courses, sports fields, and gravel rooftops. This one was foraging along the shores of Victoria, BC. No matter what environment they live in, they seem to blend in, and their mottled brown and tan pattern mimics gravel, soil, and dried vegetation. They are masters of disguise.
