I spent a morning birdwatching at Burnaby Lake, BC hoping to catch sights of morning bird behaviour. Instead I noticed young gulls playing with what I thought were rocks on the exposed mud flats. When I looked through my camera lens I realized they were golf balls and the mud flats were littered with many of them. As humans we cause wildlife such disturbance that can be consequential for their wellbeing. This moment feels like a representation of this conflict: how bird's environment and behaviour has been impacted by humans. I hope one day we can coexist with wildlife and that they can live undisturbed by our presence.
