While out touring Clayoquot Sound by boat, we saw many black bears foraging along the rocky shores, but many of them did so facing away from the water, keeping an eye on the forest for the one prominent threat they may face: another, larger black bear. This one, however, came all the way down to the water's edge to look for fish and crabs. With the water calm enough to see the reflection, I knew this was going to be a great opportunity for a photo, so I got as low as I could in the boat, and was lucky enough to capture this moment when the bear lifted their head for just a split second and looked in our direction.
