An American Goldfinch (Spinus tristis) that was feasting away on the seeds of a Common Evening Primrose (Oenothera biennis) on a late September's day last fall. The seeds of native plants and wildflowers like the Common Evening Primrose are a vital part of the American Goldfinch's diet and help sustain the lives of those who fly south on their fall migrations, as well as the lives of those who stay with us throughout the cold winters here.
