I came around a bend in the road and startled this poor baby bunny as it was hopping across the road. It hit its brakes and froze so of course I hit my brakes too and waited for it to get off the road. Baby bunnies, as prey animals, freeze when they are scared, staying completely still is a natural defense mechanism to avoid being seen by predators. After waiting a few minutes, I got out of the car and spoke softly to it but it was frozen with fear and flattened itself even closer to the ground. I was planning on just watching it to ensure its safety but when I heard another car coming I had to move closer and shoo it off the road. Such a sweet little critter!! Hope it got over its fright!
