You might notice that adult male ruby-throats are often already gone by late summer. The mother remains behind a few weeks longer to ensure her juveniles are fully developed. Once the fledgling is ready, they will part ways and migrate completely independently. The juvenile will navigate thousands of miles south entirely on instinct alone
