My husband and I decided to do a quick day trip up north island, just for something different to do and explore. We first went to Port McNeill, walked around and had lunch. Unsure of where we wanted to go next, we were thinking of where else to drive to. I really wanted to be able to see a sea otter, so did a quick search on my phone and saw that Port Alice was known as the "Sea Otter Capital of Canada", and it wasn't far away, so we got back in my car and started driving. Once we got to Port Alice, we saw there was a sea walk, so we decided to walk along it. About half way, he said there was a sea otter swimming close to shore, I was in disbelief, that I said it wasn't a sea otter. He kept trying to tell me it was and to get my camera out of my backpack. It took a little convincing that it wasn't just a seal, that it was in fact, a sea otter. I unpacked my camera as fast as I could and took some photos from the sea walk, which was above the beach, but still a good vantage point. I was so happy to finally have the opportunity to photograph a sea otter, and this one even had a very large clam! It was perfect timing, because after it dove and grabbed the clam, it paddled off into the distance where we couldn't see it anymore just moments after we first saw it.
