Was out taking pictures and saw this Cormorant perched on a branch over the water. Then he spread his wings and posed for a few shots.

Wings of Patience

A great blue heron stretches across tangled driftwood, wings spread like a living sail as it stalks the shallows for its next catch. I love how the layered blues and grays of its plumage echo the cool spring waters behind it. Photographed with my Nikon Z6ii in Ontario.

Blobs

I had gone away for the weekend and on the drive back home, I saw a field full of Sandhill Cranes. I normally don't like stopping along the highway, but I saw so many of them in a field and just knew I had to pull over. Luckily, there was no one behind me and I was able to pull over safely and park my car. I walked to the fence and watched these birds as they flew and jumped around each other, I just couldn't get enough of them. I had also noticed some white blobs off in the distance, across the river, and when I pointed my camera to them, I could see them enough to know they are mountain goats. That's what the white blobs are in the background of this photo, I know it's not much, but I doubt I will get this opportunity again to have them all in one shot.

Catch of the Day

In a single explosive moment, this osprey rose from the water clutching a hefty fish—its talons locking on with perfect precision. I caught the split-second when spray still trailed the catch and sunlight lit every feather. An unforgettable display of raw strength and hunting skill, photographed on my Nikon Z6ii.

Piercing Gaze in the Winter Thicket

With eyes as bright as lanterns, this short-eared owl sat motionless amid a tangle of winter branches, perfectly camouflaged until that electrifying stare found my lens. I waited quietly for the moment, Nikon Z6ii poised(800mm lens) and was rewarded with an intimate glimpse of one of Canada’s most charismatic raptors. From the subtle barring on its chest to those unmistakable yellow eyes, every detail tells a story of stealth and survival in open country. Please remember to respect their space.

Kluane National Park

Kluane Lake’s primary water source, the Kaskawulsh Glacier, has receded and rerouted its meltwater south. This phenomenon is known as river piracy. The formerly moist, silt-covered riverbed is now dry and prone to large dust storms.
